A note on submissions
Flat Flat welcomes unsolicited pitches from writers, researchers, and curious readers. We publish 417 essays across history, science, design, and the quieter corners of culture. Send us a paragraph describing your idea, where it might fit, and any relevant past work. We respond to every submission within three weeks, often sooner.
Press and partnership inquiries should arrive with a clear subject line and a brief description of the opportunity. We're a small editorial team, so specificity helps us help you. Corrections and reader letters can be sent to the same address — accuracy matters to us, and we publish clarifications openly.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you accept freelance pitches from new writers?
Yes. Many of our contributors published their first piece with us. Pitch us your idea in a paragraph, with two or three sentences about who you are. We care about the work, not the résumé.
What's the typical response time for submissions?
Most pitches receive a reply within two to three weeks. If your piece is time-sensitive, mention it in the subject line. We try to be faster, but we also try to read carefully.
Can I syndicate or reprint an essay from Flat Flat?
We grant reprint permissions case by case. Send the URL, the publication, and your circulation. We ask for a credit line and a link back to the original archive entry.
How do I report a factual error in an article?
Email us with the article title and the specific passage in question. Include a source if possible. We verify all corrections and update the piece with a dated note at the top.
